Month of May

After vacationing at the beginning of May, I have been playing catchup. I look through the exercises and do them usually in one or two days. After that I try to remember the ? to which I was supposed to respond. I think I've missed a few spots and will try to fill in the blanks. Still stuck on adding a video feed or a podcast. I found such a great one too!
I have been very excited to discover the depth and breadth of the computer world out there. I can see it is getting easier to tie into the resources and utilize the technology and information swarming around us. I get frustrated because I know I've done something before and I sould be able to figure it out a 2nd time. Because I don't use it often I tend to forget the steps to reach it again. I think making cheat cards would have been smart but time doesn't always allow for that.
It has been a kick to surprise my kids about the things I've learned. Most of the time they say I've heard about that...what is it? Mom is never too old to learn and share information and technology! I can see how persistence pays off and I will not hesitate to try more new Web 2.0 things as they appear. I would definately do this again...even w/o a reward at the end. Learning is fun.
I think learning together in the classroom would be helpful since there are fewer interruptions and a person available to help right away. Sometimes there was no one on sight to help out when I needed it and I would have to put off the exercise. Usually I would have to begin at the beginning and reteach myself what I was doing and then run out of time. Even with the frustrations of time constraints and the struggles to figure out what to do Its been worth it to me.
Continue to teach us as things happen out there in cyberspace.

Podcasts
If a patron has a special interest such as military planes. It would be easy to hook them up military library found in a podcast search. It would be useful to instruct patrons on various aspects of the library such as learning to search opac catalog. Some people learn verbally better than reading directions.

I have no ideas about new things. My head is still reeling from all the info to which I've been exposed. Brin it on for further education!

NEEDING HELP

I give up trying to put a snorkeling video from YouTube on my blog. I will ask for help another day! Still looking at the various selections available on 27 things. Will comment another day when time allows. I am excited about putting stories on my own IPOD! That will be the ultimate for me!
Podcasts are interesting and there are so many to choose from, just from the search Library!

on to YouTube

Lu led me to a couple of fun sites. Talking cats and talking dogs also funny cats are fun to see. No chicken videos that I could find. Maybe My "boys" can help me do a video :}!

The library could video a program or booktalk and reach a lot of people or children. It would be a way to reach the public normally not coming into the branches.

"add on"

I went back to webware and discovered a major fauz pas. I didn't look "right" for different catagories. I tried Newsvine.com, read about using Flektor for pictures, and Conduit for customizing and personalizing your toolbar. I found a calendar that patrons could use that seemed to have easy to follow instructions. I think if a patron didn't have particular computer knowledge that the library person could set them up with one of these easy to use functions. They could do spreadsheets or form a document or make up a schedule on one of the selections. It is fairly easy to follow the steps. There is something for everyone at these diferent sites.

Exploring the Web

Web 2.0 Awards was easier to use than Webware. I could choose catagories that interested me such as travel and craigslist and manuever easily. Webware seemed to be entered by date and I didn't pursue it further.

More Google !

There is more out there than can be imagined. Zoho was easy to sign on but hard to figure out how to manuever through the process. Google spreadsheet was easy to figure out and I connected my family to my site. Yeah!
Google labs was a fascinating spot to explore, if only I had the time...
Google mars was fun to see and the graphs of comparisons was interesting. More things to learn!

Library Nana's Search Engine

If I have library ? I want to go to Spl, SnoIsle, and Tacoma public library to help local patrons. I set up my search engine @google and will customixe it as time allows to connect to websites that can give me quick answers for patrons. Yeah!

Library 2.0

After reading about virtual libraries and 3d libraries, my head is spinning. I can barely keep up now and the thought of more technology is mind boggling. I can see it happening after reading about different ideas of the future of libraries.

New Chicky

I used a "generator" to add a picture to my blog. It was an easy way to introduce my newest Chick born 7:44am on friday the 13th of April. She was 8' and 20" long. Mom and Dad are thrilled as is Nana.

wikis

I rode on the wiki wiki in Hawaii! A cyberspace wiki was a puzzle to me. It seems like a quick way to find information from different people with like interests. Libraries could use them for reader's advisory done by the reading public. We could use a wiki to collaborate on a project or learn about changes in the schedule or problems occuring in a prior shift. One more thing to add to our knowledge base..good place to get ideas for programs or to solve library problems.

Ah Ha!

With a little help from Mei Mei I was able to connect to LibraryThing, a place to catalogue my favorite reads or authors. There are too many to mention but I put down 18 off the top of my head. I will add tags and interviews as more time allows. Such fun!

Discoveries

I haven't updated for awhile. I was busy exploring web 2.0. I learned about myspace and signed up for an account. I progressed to learning about del.icio.us. You can go there for your favorite bookmarks. You can set up rss feeds for constant updates, add tags and follow other people who are connected to a subject you are interested in. It is amazing the things you can do. This connection with 'friends' and info would be useful to someone doing research and to consolidate things you are interested in keeping updated on, using bookmarks and tags. Its amazing the things people have discovered!

27 THINGS

I have gone further in my KCLS 27 Things Log. I set up a Bloglines acct with RSS feeds. I can go to one place and update the weather forcast in Seattle, check out health and nutrition news, see book reviews, connect to KCLS U Learning 2.0 and see a library cartoon called Unshelved. WOW! The best part--No one helped me this time! Great fun for Nana.

Learning 2.0 has been fun so far. Doing a blog before any of my kids has been even greater fun! I'm still learning and teaching a thing or 2!

Nana's Notes

This will be an easy way to inform my family and friends about me and my activities. I feel very "hip" or "with it"! I think that dates me.
#1 son is visiting this weekend and it will be hopping!
An auction Sat the 3rd will take up a good deal of time.

Always busy!
